First Coordination Meeting for SHG Bharosa Sammelan 2026 Held

As per the direction and vision of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, the first coordination meeting for the SHG Bharosa Sammelan 2026 was convened by the OSD to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Rewaj Chettri, with the 11 Chairpersons and an OSD to discuss the planning and implementation of the Sammelan at Temi, Namchi District.

Selection of 200 SHGs and Grant-in-Aid Mechanism

The meeting focused on the formation of a committee to oversee the Sammelan, developing clear selection guidelines for identifying 200 eligible Self Help Groups (SHGs) for Grant in Aid, and ensuring that the selection process is fair, transparent, and based on the actual needs of the SHGs. Discussions were also held on the mechanism for implementing the Grant in Aid and strengthening coordination between the concerned departments, Chairpersons, and field-level functionaries.

A Historic Celebration of Rural Women's Contribution

The SHG Bharosa Sammelan is envisioned by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay, as a special and historic occasion to celebrate and recognise the contribution of Self Help Groups towards the socio-economic development of rural Sikkim. It will be one of its kind celebrations in the State, bringing together the strength and spirit of thousands of rural women who have contributed immensely to their families, communities, and the rural economy.

Today, more than 65,000 rural women are part of the SHG movement in Sikkim. Their journey represents not only women's empowerment, but also the growing spirit of entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and community-led development in rural areas.

Reflecting the Vision of "Grassroots to Governance"

The initiative also reflects the Hon'ble Chief Minister's vision of "Grassroots to Governance." It is historic that members of the SHG movement have themselves reached positions of responsibility as Chairpersons and an OSD, and are now contributing to governance and decision-making. Their grassroots experience brings a valuable perspective to the implementation of programmes meant for the people.

District-wise Consultations from 1 September

As the next step, district-wise coordination meetings will begin from 1 September 2026 with BDS and WDS/Federation leaders, along with the SRLM BMMU teams. These consultations will ensure wider participation at the grassroots and help make the selection of the 200 SHGs fair, transparent, and systematic.

The SHG Bharosa Sammelan is not only about recognising SHGs. It is about recognising the women behind them, their hard work, their aspirations, and their contribution to building a stronger Sikkim. SHG Bharosa Sammelan 2026 will be a celebration of the strength, spirit, and achievements of Sikkim's rural women.
