Six-Day Induction Training for Newly Appointed Probationary Primary Teachers Begins at SCERT, Gangtok
Gangtok, 24 August 2026: The first phase of a six-day Induction Training Programme for newly appointed Probationary Primary Teachers commenced today at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Education Department, Lower Burtuk, Gangtok. A total of 116 teachers from Gangtok, Pakyong, Mangan, and Soreng districts are participating in the first phase.
Inaugural Session
The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Tashi Chopel, Secretary-cum-State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Education Department, as the Chief Guest. The session included a welcome and context-setting address by Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari, Director, SCERT, participant introductions, and an address by the Chief Guest.
Opening Day: NEP 2020, Vidya Pravesh and Inclusive Education
The induction programme aims to familiarise newly appointed teachers with their professional roles and responsibilities, contemporary pedagogical practices, and key educational interventions to support effective classroom teaching. The opening day covered an overview of NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework, along with sessions on Vidya Pravesh and Early Childhood Care and Education, Inclusive Education, and the use of ICT and DIKSHA in teaching-learning. Participants also completed a pre-test.
Numeracy, Literacy and Exposure Visits
From the second day, participants will be divided into two batches for parallel sessions. Two days will focus on the pedagogical processes of the Chief Minister Special Numeracy Programme, implemented by SCERT in collaboration with Jodo Gyan, while one full day will focus on foundational literacy under the Language and Literacy Programme. An exposure visit to Modern Senior Secondary School and PM SHRI Deorali Senior Secondary School will provide participants with firsthand opportunities to observe classroom practices and pedagogical processes in the school.
Assessment, Digital Learning and Student Support
Other key areas include competency-based assessment and the Holistic Progress Card, blueprint and competency-based question-paper development, PM e-Vidya, Continuous Professional Development, career counselling, and the reintegration of out-of-school children, along with awareness on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Group activities and participant presentations will form an integral part of the training.
The second phase of the induction programme will be conducted shortly for newly appointed Probationary Primary Teachers from Namchi and Gyalshing districts.
